
The City of Charleston is rich in history and significant architecture. The lower peninsula is approximately three square miles and borders Charleston Harbor, the Ashley River and the Cooper River. Charleston has plenty of parks like Waterfront Park, where children are allowed to play in the sprinklers and many picnic along the water’s edge. A pedestrian dock overlooks Charleston Harbor and there are beautiful grounds and low country swings to pass the time away chatting with old and new friends. The SC Aquarium has made its home on the Charleston Harbor. The SC Aquarium is a significant in architectural design and showcases the uniqueness of our State’s water resources, abundant with wildlife and other natural resources.
Charleston is also known for its significant restaurants. Many internationally recognized chefs call Charleston home, and the cuisine in Charleston is incomparable to almost anywhere else in the US and beyond.
The peninsula of Charleston features many historic properties, both single family residences with double piazzas and notable gardens can be found. Luxury condominiums are also apparent in this unique walking city. Those who live in the city can walk to numerous art galleries, restaurants, theaters and playhouses, retail shops and antique shops, parks and the waterfront. Cycling is a preferred means of transportation in Charleston.
Charleston is also home to the Medical University of SC, a nationally acclaimed hospital, medical school and residency training institute, the College of Charleston, the Citadel, Charleston Law School and the Culinary Institute of Charleston..
