SAVE OUR TURTLE

As you may know we have only a few more weeks before our “Turtle” statue at Marshall Stith Park (on Middle Street near the Bandstand) will be auctioned , along with all the others on temporary display around town, at an Aquarium fundraiser on September 15.   I have talked to many of you, as well as our mayor, Carl Smith, and the Park Foundation, and the town council about trying to bid and win our Turtle back for permanent residency.*

  Through the Park Foundation, we could buy our “Turtle” back or perhaps an equally beautiful one. To that end, I am soliciting pledges for donations to SAVE OUR TURTLE fund. If you would like to see a turtle permanently in our park and would like to pledge ANYTHING – pennies to dollars, please contact me either via e-mail (preferable) or call.   I am told the statues will be auctioned with an opening minimum bid of $1500 which only covers the cost of each statue.

 I am willing to attend the auction and bid up to the amount for which I have donation pledges. If we are not the successful bidder for the turtle, the donations pledged will not be collected. If we are successful bidder and have pledges for donations in excess of the bid amount, the entire donation pledge will be collected and the surplus funds will go to the to the Park Foundation for upkeep of the park and statue.

Please consider what a wonderful tribute this would be to all the turtles that have nested here.
